My name is Harold Jenkins. I was born in North Fork, Virginia. We moved to New York when I was about a year old. I attended St. Thomas Catholic School, then George Washington High School.
As a child I was always interested in music and dance.
I used to go to The Apollo Theater to see all the great groups that
appeared there.
I had the opportunity to try out for The Jocko Show
(the American Bandstand of New York). I appeared as a regular on
the show for a couple of years. It was there that I was discovered
by a Doo Wop group named the Kodaks. That was the beginning of my
singing career. I was with them for about five years.
Then I met Kenny Seymour and we started our own group The Impacts. I became the choreographer for our group and others such as Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes. After about eight years the Impacts broke up and Kenny went to work with Little Anthony and The Imperials.
He introduced me to them and they hired me as their choreographer. I became a dancing conductor and then moved up to singer.
We toured for a few years, moved West, and the group
disbanded in 1979. Clarence Collins started a spin-off group called
The Imperials with Clarence, Bobby Wade and myself. We worked Las
Vegas, Atlantic City, Canada and Europe for about ten years. Then
Clarence went back with Anthony when he came out of retirement.
Bobby Wade and I formed The Emperors and appeared
at Caesar's Palace until 2000. We decided to stop for a while and
I started my own business.
Then in 2004, I got a phone call from Clarence Collins asking
if I would like to start singing again. Now I'm back and I'm very
happy to be With My Friends Again!!
